KOLONAKI

Place to visit At the base of the Lycabettus Hill, Kolonaki was primarily a residential area that started being built at the end of the19th century, restricted mostly to the elegant private houses of the more affluent society of the time. It grew rapidly by the 1930ies to become the chic area of Athens, with wide streets, better quality apartment buildings, expensive shops, cafes and restaurants. In Kolonaki one can visit the Benaki and the Cycladic Museum and, across Vasilissis Sophias Avenue, the Byzantine and Christian Museum and the National Gallery. More info
